Opened in 1863, the museum is in the vaulted cellars of the Château de Sonnaz, a 17th century residence perched above the Port de Rives and Lake Geneva, which hosted many Savoy princes
"La frontière, histoires de contrebande" (The Frontier, Smugglers’ Stories):
Explore the history of the Chablais region where a wide range of goods illegally passed through at this exhibit displaying smugglers’ plans and customs seizures!
"Les barques du Léman: chroniques d'une navigation disparue" (Lake Geneva Boats: Chronicles of a Bygone Form of Transport):
Models, paintings and objects chronicle the history of these boats with lateen sails which transported tons of rocks from the Meillerie quarries to build modern Geneva.
"Portrait sensible de Marguerite Peltzer" (A Sensitive Portrait of Marguerite Peltzer):
Local figure and world famous artist, Marguerite Peltzer was a talented sculptor who has used a range of materials and dealt with difficult and violent subjects as well as classically beautiful pieces. View her major works and the incredible pieces on display in a reconstruction of the workshop as she left it when she died.
