Description
LA CHAPELLE DU CHEF - LIEU
The chapel is located on the main road to Taninges, 350 m from the parish church. It is also known as "La Chapelle à la Dame" or "la chapelle des grands champs". The chapel suffered the ravages of the Revolution, then fell into ruin. It was rebuilt on the old site by Curé Montessuit in 1865-1866.
THE CHAPEL OF SAINT GRAT
Located in the woods, 850 m above sea level, above Matringes. The chapel is dedicated to the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary, Joseph, St. Anne and St. Grat. St Grat, bishop of Aosta in the fifth century, is highly venerated by farmers as the patron saint of cereals, protecting them from insects, moles and bad weather. The chapel was founded and endowed on April 24, 1697. The chapel suffered the same fate as other religious buildings: partial destruction and abandonment. It was renovated in 1865, thanks to the great faith and courage of Joseph Gaudin and his wife Marie Humbert.
THE LEY CHAPEL
Founded in 1662 by Claude Bailly, a notary from Leÿ. In 1868, the villagers pledged to buy a chalice for the chapel. Previously, they had built a bell tower, with a bell that was rung three times a day for the Angelus. The altarpiece depicts the angel Gabriel announcing the Nativity to Mary. A particular feature of this chapel is that the side windows are hidden by shutters.
THE QUINCY CHAPEL
This chapel is located in the center of the village of Quincy, 5 km from the main town. It is a very recent chapel, inaugurated in 1957. Owned by the patronage of Ste Jeanne d'Arc, it is dedicated to Blessed François JACQUARD. The chapel has a confessional and a sacristy cupboard.
SAINT DENIS CHAPEL
Located in the center of the village of Saint-Denis, this is probably the oldest chapel in Mieussy, dating back to the 15th century and built by local residents. It is dedicated to St Denis and St Christophe. A first pastoral visit by Monseigneur de Roussillon is recorded on September 5, 1704. During the French Revolution, the chapel was severely damaged, devastated and abandoned. In 1878, at the request of Monsieur le curé BURTIN, the chapel was renovated once again, with the back window walled up, the two side windows and the door from this period, as well as the altar in neo-classical Sardinian style, with faux Carrara marble columns dear to the craftsmen of Piedmont.
