Cycling loop: Circuit de Joux Plane
A big route of mountain where it is advisable to manage its effort, because the difficult rise of Joux-Plane represents only 55 to 60 % of your made uneven total, according to your point of departure.
Description
Direction of travel: counter-clockwise.
Landmarks and connections: St-Jean-d'Aulps from Thonon; Châtillon and Taninges from Cluses; for all : Montriond, Les Gets, Samoëns, Morzine.
Description:Climbed for the first time in 1978 by the Tour de France riders, Joux-Plane has become one of the most legendary passes in the Alps. The fact remains that Joux-Plane is a magnificent summit to conquer, even if it is not a geographical pass (which is located off the road, some 20 metres higher up). In the proposed direction and over a length of just under 12km, you'll have to contend with a 12.5% gradient in the first kilometer and 5km at over 9% at the end of the climb. Then there's the much more modest Col des Gets. It's a long warm-up for those setting off from Thonon, and a moderately steep climb on the way back for those coming from Cluses.
